Barefoot Blonde Book Club : The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

I mentioned that this month I was reading The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas and I flew through it so fast, I loved it! I originally found out about it because on my flight there were two girls about my age reading it and they read it non-stop almost the entire flight. Half way into the flight I was like ok I have to know what this book is about! I googled it and started reading reviews and bought it.

It is about a 16-year-old girl named Starr who witnesses a police shooting her unarmed friend when they are pulled over. She takes you through what it is like from her point of view and  it really helped me understand the Black Lives Matter movement even more and really realize the importance of it. Not that I didn’t before, but this book gives you such a great perspective that it just takes it a step further because you really connect with Starr.

I think it is so great for anyone to read especially if like me you grew up somewhat sheltered. It really helps to see a different perspective on this very important problem we are having with police brutality in today’s society. The Hate U Give also comes out in movie theaters in October! So hurry and read it so you can go see it too. I think it is such a good read for anyone! You can find the book here.

The next book I am starting is Girl, Wash Your Face – this was the most recommended book by you guys on insta!!! So I am giving it a go. �
